Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
At Geneseo UMC, we describe this mission in a way that honors and reflects our rural heritage:
Plant. It is important to worship together, to invite people to “come and see” what’s going on at church, and to offer a warm welcome to everyone. But sowing seeds of faith doesn’t end there. Jesus challenges us to follow him 24/7 and allow his love to flow from us to our friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors in everything we say and do.
Grow. God’s Spirit powerfully transforms us through individual practices like daily prayer and study, and in the gathered community as we participate in Sunday school classes and share in small groups. At Geneseo, we are dedicated to Biblically-grounded, thought-provoking, formative teaching for all ages to help us mature in faith and become more like Jesus.
Share. The circle of faith is not complete until those who are being transformed by grace reach out in ever-deepening love and service. It is our privilege to work in our community, our nation, and our world as we follow Jesus’ command to provide food, shelter, companionship and care for one another and for the most vulnerable in our midst.
We are constantly looking for ways that we can improve our ministry in each of these areas and we desire to do our best in order to honor the Great Commission of Christ, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” Matt. 28:19-20
